News Paper Article
This was the headline in the newspaper recently. It states that Britain is now going to war. This affects Canada greatly because we are allies with Britain. We will have to go to war. Anna doesn't want there to be another conscription situation like the last war because if not enough people volunteer, she doesn’t think that she has any choice in the matter. She must do what needs to be done to ensure a victory.
Spies
On her last mission, she was disguised as a Japanese soldier. This helmet means a lot to her because it represents her success. Spying gives her such a thrill because the other team doesn’t know that she is actually an enemy. Being able to attack them by surprise always gives her a rush which she loves so much. However, her job is extremely dangerous, and she must not get distracted, or her cover could be blown at any time.
French Canadians
The French Canadians have a lot of pride in their culture. They do not want to fight in the war. Instead they would much prefer to stay at home with their families. Anna found these posters on the street while she was walking home one day. This angered her because she definitely did not want others to want to go to war after seeing this poster. She knew that she will never support the war as she has a family to care for and she simply doesn’t want to fight.
Soldiers Who Fought In Hong Kong
Grains of Rice
These grains of rice represent the struggle that Anna went through in Hong Kong. When they were being shipped to Hong Kong, no one knew the little chance of success they had. They were all tricked. Anna was angered. To make matters worse, the Japanese captured some of them as prisoners. The conditions they live in are horrendous and many have already died. They make them work so hard and all they give them in return is a little rice three times a day. That is all they eat everyday. She has grown so weak and don’t have the energy to work anymore.
Japanese Canadians
After Japan attacked, the Canadians of her culture have been extremely hated on and suspected. They are innocent!. They came to Canada in the hopes of a better future and they will not do anything to harm their country. Nevertheless, they still won’t listen. Anna saw this notice stating that all of them were to be imprisoned. Soon, she found herself in this disgusting place with limited food and just endless work. She had been separated from her family with no idea of where they have gone to. She hopes that they will finally come to their senses and realize that they are not a threat to Canada.
Nurses
It is so hectic over here in Europe. Everyday is such a busy place at the hospital with many injured soldiers always coming in. We are quickly running out of beds and all the nurses are extremely busy. We desperately need more volunteers to come out and help us. There are just never enough of us available to take care of the soldiers as soon as possible. I am grateful that these posters have been put up so that women are aware that they can contribute to the war by becoming nurses.
